2006 / 11 / 29

The Fifth International Break through Festival of Russian Poetry and Arts will take place in Covent Garden on the 2nd -11th June 2007. The aim of this democratic event is to bring together the most gifted poets and artists, support their talent, creativity and equal rights to display Russian literary merit and traditions to the British public and tourists.

We cordially invite you to participate at our International Break through Festival of Russian Poetry and Arts. Please, check the Programme of the Festival.

The festival events will take place at Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden and various other venues.

The focal point of the Festival is the International Poetry Tournament Pushkin in Britain 2007, the biggest annual international poetry forum for the 400,000 Russians in London and millions of Russian speakers abroad.

Evidence of the dramatically increasing popularity of the London Pushkin in Britain Festival for the past five years has been the coverage in the media throughout the world, the response of Russian communities in many countries and great interest of the British public attending the event.

The Jurors for the 2007 event include the most prominent Russian poets and writers (R. Kazakova, Y. Poliakov, E. Bunimovich, V. Erofeev, A Voskresensky, Maria Gordon, M. Popov, etc.).

The Organisers, under the leadership of Oleg Borushko, invite Russian poets from all over the world to enter the competition by composing a poem which begins with a (yearly selected) Alexander Pushkin line. Then the chosen finalists come to London for the Grand Open Final where audience and Jury vote for the King/Queen, Vice-King/Queen and Knight of Poets.

Winners will be adorned with crowns and awarded money prizes and presents. The after-party will take place on a boat on the River Thames.

Other activities will include a week of young Russian VGIK film-makers’ work, a Russian Art Exhibition, a performance of Borys Godunov, Video Poetry and a concert given by children from London Russian schools. There will also be a Russian antique and contemporary art fair. Major Russian TV Channels will be broadcasting the event.

Pushkin’s poetry is a great introduction for all those who appreciate exciting Russian literature and exotic culture.
