Two Medals and a Thousand Thanks: A Composer’s Journey
2025 / 06 / 20
USA greets me with two meaningful gifts.
I received this news literally mid-journey while crossing over the Atlantic – (what a wonderful invention is in-flight Wi-Fi!) – that two of my recent musical projects were honored by the Global Music Awards, based in Los Angeles.
“Gardutė” received the Silver Medal for Original Score, recognised for blending orchestral textures with the traditional Lithuanian polyphonic singing – Sutartinės.
“Šiaurė” received the Silver Medal for Composition, highlighting the creative effort behind the concept and structure of the full album.
It’s heartening to land in a country that welcomes music in such a way. But even more meaningful than the recognition is the process – the long, often uncertain journey of creating something with honesty, collaborating with exceptional people, and telling stories through sound and music.
To my colleagues, composers, and fellow artists – keep sharing your sounds. The world needs sincere art more than ever. When we scroll through today's headlines, I can only hope that music, created with care and love, can help us all move toward building, not breaking this beautiful world
.
Sending warm thanks to everyone who was part of these projects – your fingerprints are all over the music. This recognition belongs to all of us.
With gratitude from the skies over North America
