What 15-Year-Olds Taught Me About the Future of Music and AI

2024 / 10 / 23

I had the privilege of engaging with a group of brilliant high school students in an open lecture discussing the core essence of the music industry. We traversed through the interplay of technology, music, industry developments, and pop culture, examining how these elements have shaped the industry since the 19th century.

A particularly heartfelt part of our conversation delved into the impact of Artificial Intelligence on creativity and professional diligence. It was inspiring and a bit poignant to hear 15-year-olds express concerns about the future of professions like mine in the wake of AI's rise. Will the role of a composer evolve, or perhaps, fade? While the future holds many uncertainties, one thing is clear: we are poised to approach our crafts differently.

Drawing parallels to historical transitions, such as the introduction of robotics in industrial mass production, we discussed how such technological advancements initially feared to replace jobs actually ended up creating more opportunities. This historical perspective brought a sense of optimism to our dialogue.

The future of creativity may look different, but it will undoubtedly remain at the heart of what we do. The concept of creativity itself may evolve, but its essence will continue to inspire and drive us forward.
